We absolutely love summer fashion because there is so much colour and so much choice in the stores even with all the summer accessories. We also love summer because this is usually when we are looking our best. We seem to look after our bodies a bit more in Summer knowing we have to be bikini ready at any given time and our skin develops a sun kissed summer glow so we are more happy to show some more skin and be more playful with our accessories.
Each summer a hat, sunglasses, and sandals are summer essentials especially for Bondi Beauties and for people spending more time at the beach but what are the trends this season?
The Style Doctor has listed the top 5 Accessory trends for this summer:
1. Boater or Panama Hat
The rule for styling hats is to choose a straw hat for summer and leave the felt hats for Autumn/Winter. This summer the hottest trends are the boater and the panama hats.
The Boater is always a Chanel favourite in all Resort collections but the Boater was also seen on the runway at the Olympia Le Ta, Saint Laurent and Agnes B shows.
Another on trend hat this season is the panama in both the classic black and white and in colours. Panama hats were on the runway at Karen Walker, Martin Grant and BCBG Max Azria.

Another styling tip for wearing hats is if you have a larger head or a rounded face, opt for a wider brim because a small brim will make your head look bigger. If you have a small face the smaller brim is better but you can usually get away with most styles.
2. Statement Sunglasses
With the 70’s trend continuing into Summer the round framed glasses are huge trend this season. The round frames look good on oval, square or heart shape faces but aren’t the best style if you have a round face. Karen Walker, Le Specs, Miu Miu, Gucci, The Row, Fendi and House of Holland all have great round sunnies.
Another huge trend is the Utility/ Military trend so the classic aviators are also a huge trend and look great on most face shapes. The original Ray Bans are a style that always seem to be on trend as too are the Victoria Beckham, Linda Farrow, Isabel Marant and Miu Miu.
Whatever style you choose, always make sure you choose a polarised lens to protect your beautiful eyes from the harsh Australian sun.
3. The new Gladiator Sandals
The great news for our non-heel lovers or beach goers is flats are on trend which is great because there are so many sandals that can easily take you from day to night.
The Gladiator style sandal is back this summer with both tough looking sandals as well as a softer lace up styles and even ballerina styles. Erdem and Tibi were advocates of this style on the runway and now they are in Wittner, Zu and Wanted shoe stores plus my favoutite Kito gold sandals are online.
As the weather heats up so do our feet so always choose a natural leather sandal and avoid patent leather or imitation leather because your feet will thank you at the end of the day. Patent leather and imitation leather doesn’t breathe as well so your feet will not only rub and feel sore but it’s more inclined to create a bad odor. No one likes smelly feet!
Also, when showing your feet in sandals a pedicure is a must! No one likes seeing unpolished toes in your stylish sandals.
4. Espadrilles and Avarcas
Now for your more casual flat and the perfect beach shoe, Espadrilles and Avaras are a hot trend this summer!
Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Proenza Schouler, Saint Laurent and Dolce and Gabbana all do very stylish espadrilles but Sambag, Wittner, and Soludos all do Espadrilles that won’t break the bank.
Palmaira Sandals Australia do a fabulous avarca which will keep your feet looking on trend at the beach and at summer BBQ’s this summer. I love them because they are very comfortable and they come in so many different colours that there is sure to be one to suit your summer looks.
5. Beach Bag
Nautical beach bags are always a stylish option but the hottest trend this summer is the understated beach bag.
There are so many fabulous bars in Bondi and it’s so nice to duck in for a couple of summer cocktails before you head home. The understated beach bag ensures you can go from the beach to the bar whilst still looking very stylish.
Choose a cotton drill, a canvas bag or a style that you know can withstand the elements at the beach including sand but one that will go with your summer style.
Here are some options for the understated beach bag.
So no matter what outfit you're wearing this summer, make sure your accessories don't let you down.
